The Butterfly Swords and Dragon Pole are the 2 weapons taught in Wing Chun. The butterfly swords were practical as they were easily carried, deadly and readily available. In modern times, knowing how to use a blade can come in handy when defending yourself at your home or if a blade is available like in a kitchen. It also can be useful if you live in a city where carrying knives are legal but guns are not. They are designed like natural extensions to all the normal moves in Wing Chun. Most of the hand strikes can be translated directly into strikes with a butterfly sword.
