Exactly what you want from a video game turned movie. Good fight scenes and plenty of video game accurate gore. Interesting storyline that isn’t exactly Earth shattering, but gets the job done.

The movie starts with Sub-zero coming to kill Scorpion’s family to prevent his blood line from competing in Mortal Kombat to defend Earth against the Outer Realm. Scorpion’s wife and son are killed along with Scorpion, but his baby is hidden and survives and is picked up by Raiden.
Cut to present day, Cole, a distant ancestor of Scorpion, is a cage fighter and learns he has been chosen for Mortal Kombat. Him and the others train for Mortal Kombat under Liu Kang and Kung Lao. Kano was training with the Earth realm team but later betrays them after being promised great wealth.
Each side attempts to kill off the other team leading to characters on both sides dying. Eventually, all of the outer realm team are wiped out with Sub-zero being the last.
Sub-zero freezes Cole’s family forcing him to fight in a frozen cage. Scorpion returns from hell to fight alongside Cole and defeats Scorpion and saves Cole’s family.
Raiden tells them the fight continues and they must get the new chosen fighters for Mortal Kombat and the Cole states he is headed to Hollywood and the camera cuts to a movie poster of Johnny Cage.
