Ip Man 5 Kung-Fu Master was released on December 11, 2020. In this film, Ip Man is serving as a police officer in Foshan, China and targeted by a gang leader with an axe weilding gang.

This is a very different Ip Man from the prior Ip Man movies. First of all, Donnie Yen is not in this movie. Ip Man is played by Yu-Hang To. This movie is The matrix and all the prior Ip Man movies combined. In one of the opening scenes, Ip Man walks into the gangster headquarters and defeats dozens of axe wielding gangsters with his bare hands.
The plot is confusing, with the two leading women in this movie, one his wife, and two, the daughter of the gangster boss who ends up teaming up with Ip Man who is terrible at Kung Fu foot but is also a news reporter?
At one point in the movie, his wife is sent off to a different location for safety but is conveniently joined by the gangster’s daughter and attend a fight they watch together arm-in-arm.
I would describe this movie as what a kung-fu movie would look like if a six-year-old wrote it. Did I enjoy the movie overall? Yes, anything with wing Chun or Ip Man I will watch and support with my money. The fight scene in the middle of the movie where Ip Man fights the ax wielding gang using a Wing Chun long pole was worth it alone. Furthermore, I am also planning to watch Ip Man 6 when Ip Man goes to space and fights the Darkside Empire.
